Rotary will donate an annual $1000 music scholarship to the St Cecilia group, in honour of David Harding.
The David Harding Tertiary Music Award was named in honour of his many years of leadership as president of the St Cecilia program and his work as a Rotarian in support of youth.
The St Cecilia program helps young musicians in the South Coast and the Rotary grant will help a participant proceeding to tertiary music studies.
Rotary allows ordinary people to achieve extraordinary things – and this has certainly been the case with this generous award.
The first David Harding Award has been awarded to Chloe Watts, a young pianist and past participant in the annual St Cecilia Music Scholarship program.
Chloe completed her HSC at St Peters College in 2016 and this year commenced a Bachelor of Music Degree at the Sydney Conservatorium.
In addition to the David Harding award, this year the St Cecilia Scholarship Committee granted a scholarship of $1,000 to Johanna Eltherington, who was the winner of the Senior Contemporary category in 2017.
Johanna studied at Carroll College and has commenced a Bachelor of Music degree at the Australian Institute of Music in Sydney.
Johanna is aiming for a career in musical theatre and film.
