Forestry Corporation is looking for seasonal firefighters of varying experiences and skills sets for the upcoming fire season in Batemans Bay and Eden.
Forestry Corporation’s Senior Manager Stewardship, Kathy Lyons, said a key role of the seasonal staff would be to bolster local firefighting capability and help protect NSW communities from wildfire over summer.
“Forestry Corporation manages 2 million hectares of State forests and is a firefighting agency contributing to firefighting efforts right across the state,” said Ms Lyons.
“We take our firefighting responsibilities seriously and put all seasonal staff through intensive training so that they are ready to deploy to fires locally and state-wide as required throughout the summer.”
Positions are also available in Casino, Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Dorrigo, Wauchope, Taree, East Maitland, Mandalong, Dungog and Bulahdelah. There will also be a call for seasonal staff in Bathurst and Tumut in the coming months.
“We’re looking for a team with a great mix of backgrounds and experience and are particularly encouraging women and Aboriginal people to apply for these roles,” Ms Lyons said.
“The work is seasonal in nature and workloads will vary depending on bushfire conditions.
“We need people who are physically fit, have a high regard for safety and work well in a team. Experience in firefighting is great but we can train up the right people in this important skill as well.
“The team will also have the opportunity to train and work in a wide range of other forest work including in tourism and recreation, environment protection, heritage management and hazard reduction and cultural burning.”
