James Bell scored a last-minute try to seal the 40-36 victory in front of the biggest home crowd so far this season.
The home side started well, stringing together multiple phases to score the opening try under the posts within five minutes.
However, the Rams worked their way into the game from that point, scoring the next two tries to take a 12-7 lead.
Momentum shifted back to the Boars, who scored two more tries of their own to take a 19-12 lead into the half time break.
Yass have impressed with a number of strong performances this year, and they looked to run away from the Boars early in the second half with two quick tries.
The Boars hit back through James Bell’s first try, but a defensive lapse gifted Yass their fifth try of the match which gave the visitors a 33-26 lead with less than 15 minutes remaining.
The crowed got involved from that point, and the Boars responded with the last two tries of the match to snatch victory.
Boars coach Jim Roberts said his side needed the win to stay in touch with the top four.
“Bungendore was just a few points ahead,” he said. “They had a forfeit today, so that puts us in a better spot to contend for the top four now.”
Roberts said the side had a big week at training due to Indigenous Round, and hoped that would continue throughout the rest of the season.
“It was a big day for Indigenous Round,” he said. “The crowd really got behind us, and I think that helped us over the line.
“Everyone was switched on for it this week, so hopefully we can keep getting the boys to training.”
The Boars had two opportunities to tie the game with a penalty goal before Bell’s second try, but Roberts said that was never considered.
“We needed the win,” he said. “We needed the full points, so there was no question on that: we were going for the win.”
