Ratepayers urged to write
A reminder to all those who will benefit from the implementation of the Rural Lands Strategy: you have until June 22 to let both the council and the state government know you agree with this strategy and that, after five years of consultation and planning, no further delay is warranted.

The council has presented well-researched and evidence-based proposals to government. Government agencies all participated in the strategy and made little or no changes. When the plan comes off exhibition they should gazette these changes into the Rural LEP as soon as possible.
There have been spurious claims made by Coastwatchers and others that the strategy is flawed and biodiversity will be threatened. The facts are the proposed LEP simply mirrors and includes all state and federal environmental legislation. All relevant protections are in place.
Generally, with public exhibitions, the negative side of the argument submit their minority view in an attempt to disadvantage the majority. Coastwatchers and others are attempting to railroad this process because it fails to meet their misguided ideals and are attempting to impose restrictions on private lands far above what current government legislation requires.
I am urging all landholders to write a simple short submission urging both the council and government to adopt the proposed LEP in its current form as soon as possible.

Costings sought
Issues raised in your story “Labor seeks pool costings” (Bay Post/Moruya Examiner, Friday, June 8) reinforce why the community has a lack of confidence and trust in Eurobodalla Shire Council over the deceptive and unsupported decision to replace our 50m pool in Batemans Bay with a 25m pool in the Mackay Park aquatic/arts centre.
As does the mayor, general manager and directors’ insistence that all costings have been made public. There is no evidence comparative costings between the existing 50m pool and a new 25m pool; the existing 50m pool and a new 50m pool; a new 25m pool and a refurbished or new 50m pool have been made public.
In deciding to replace the 50m pool with a 25m pool, the council failed their own Community Engagement Framework: “The removal of a shire-wide service/provision of a regional facility the level of impact is 4: MODERATE–HIGH and requires collaboration – to partner with the public in each aspect of the decision, including the development of alternatives and the identification of the preferred solution.”
The council did not collaborate or partner with stakeholders in each aspect of the decisions or development of alternatives or identify any preferred solution to the demolition of our 50m pool. (This) is as relevant today as it was when the plans to replace the 50m pool were unveiled in August last year.
At stake is an inclusive aquatic centre and social cohesion as well as the future of swimming in Batemans Bay.
