The owl was found on a road in Rosedale after being hit by a car. Masked Owls are classed as vulnerable in NSW.
The owl was taken to Caseys Beach Vet for a full body examination and X-ray. The owl was found to have a lung contusion, with air leaking from its lung.
It will stay in care for two-to-three weeks, with the hope its injuries heal on their own.
A WIRES spokesperson asked members of the public to stop and examine animals that have been hit by cars, if it is safe to do so.
A beginners course will be held in Batemans Bay in August for anyone wishing to join the local WIRES branch. Please see: https://www.wildlifetraining.org.au/ricc/ricc for details.
