These Road Safety programs are held annually for Year 11 students at high schools in the area.
Our area covers Batemans Bay, Broulee, Moruya and Narooma High Schools.
This year, over two days, 280 students attended this wonderful program. In the 11 years this program has been operating in our area, more than 2000 students have attended.
What a great experience this must be for our Year 11 students, who mostly, are learning to drive, or currently have their P plates.
Many different subjects were covered by experienced presenters, including Risk Awareness, Self Control, Speaking Up, Crash Factors, Speed and Stopping/Braking distances, to name a few.
Congratulations to the members of our Rotary clubs who attended on the day, helping to make this program a very worthwhile one in our community and ensuring our local learner and P plate drivers make the local roads safer for all of us.

Pool still hot
On March 27, Eurobodalla Shire Mayor Liz Innis showed how little she cares about due process and the views of many in community.
Using her mayoral powers, she rammed through her position on the aquatic centre. In her Mayoral minute she was able to bring forward with unnecessary haste a motion which killed debate on the most suitable size for a pool and auditorium.
When the feasibility study was proposed and the sunset committee formed, most of the community felt any involvement would be as bystanders. Otium’s options 1 and 2 were found wanting. In one case, the report seemed to be skewed towards a 25-metre pool and was very negative towards a 50 metre pool. You would have expected a list of pros and cons for each.
Why? The 25 metre pool would be cheaper. It would provide learning to swim, small-scale competition, leisure and take up less room. However, it serves a limited purpose for serious competition swimming, requiring competitors to go elsewhere.
The 50 metre pool would be more expensive, although I am suspicious of the costs put forward, mainly because of the cherry picking within reports. A 50-metre pool can accommodate recreational and competition use up to Olympic standard. This would draw back those who train at Ulladulla and would increase users and revenue. Schools would prefer it. However, cost would be greater to build and maintain.
Cr Innes said the 25-metre pool would be increased to 10 lanes. At what cost? I can see the cost gap narrowing already. The cost of maintaining the 50 metre pool should have been compared with the cost of maintaining the existing pool.
Cr Innes: you may have shut down the debate in council but not in the community. Congratulations to Cr McGinlay, who had the temerity to speak out. The other councillors? What can you say?

Parking fiasco in Batemans Bay
It's time for a crackdown on shoppers ignoring one-way signs and parking illegally in the Woolie’s carpark.
On Easter Saturday, after being forced to pull hard-left against the kerb to avoid an oncoming car, my tyre was badly damaged, leaving me waiting an hour for NRMA, and now a bill for a new tyre.
A Woolie’s employee said shoppers were “always doing it” - ie driving the wrong way.
Not to sound too narky, but my car had limped in to a no-parking spot by the building, guided by the Woolie’s employee, and of course, this seemed to give sanction to a host of others to parallel park by the wall in the full no-parking zone.
When a refrigerated semi rolled in for Woolworth's, there was nowhere for it to park and traffic backed up behind it
Honestly, what were any of these people thinking?

Crying out for babies and toddlers
The annual Baby and Toddler Expo is on once again at Moruya Riverside Park on Saturday April 28 from 10am-1pm.
This is a free event for families.
There will be information stalls so families with babies (future or present) can meet local service providers and plenty of free entertainment for the kids.
You can have your baby seats checked for free or bring a teddy to the health tent for a free demonstration.
Bring your pre-loved baby clothes and swap them for new ones.
The expo has become quite a popular event.
Last year, I was totally amazed to see hundreds of parents pushing prams and all the pregnant women coming up to our info stall to pick up baby information bags.
It is a really great event to connect local families to local service providers.
