The five-kilometre run is held every Saturday morning at Rotary Park near the Marina. The run starts at 8am, and is a five-kilometre course along the waterfront.
The run is completely free, but participants are required to register before their first run.
Last Saturday saw 78 runners start on a beautiful warm Autumn morning. From this great number the following achieved a new Personal Best (PB): William Gill, Damien Montesin, Annemaree Frank, Wendy Counsell, Kellie Grubb, Tracy Denning, Connie Delaney, Tania Dorney, Stephanie Dawe, Allen Valerius, Kathryn Jeffery, Lorraine Valerius , Kathy Laudnback and Bethany Seidel. Congratulations to all on a great effort.
Park Run is one of the biggest organisers of free exercise in the world. The first event was held in Teddington, London, England on October 2, 2004, and has since spread to 17 countries world wide.
Participants have covered more than 160 million kilometres in the 14 years since the first run, spending a combined 1880 years in their running shoes.
Park Run enthusiast Tracy Denning said Batemans Bay is the perfect place for the event.
“We are lucky enough to have this event every Saturday in Batemans Bay,” she said.
“Batemans Bay has the most beautiful setting to run along. From the Marina into town and back with the Clyde River in the backdrop.
“Generally there is a breeze that cools the runners as well.”
Denning said you don’t need a certain level of fitness to participate.
“Participants range in age from 12 years to over 80 years old,” she said. “And the nicest thing is that everyone enjoys it!”
“All levels of fitness come along to join in – those committed to running and training, and those that just want to enjoy a five-kilometre walk with friends.
“Please come along and enjoy – it is a wonderful way to start your fitness campaign.”
The club needs several volunteers each week, and are always on the lookout for new runners.
To be eligible to run, participants must register at the park run website.
