The 20-year deal was brokered to bring an end to “the forest wars”, but there were no signs of peace breaking out in Batemans Bay on Wednesday when the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) hosted a drop-in session.
Green groups oppose business as usual, saying another 20 years of current practices will destroy vital habitat. They fear debris left in forests is a fire risk and want to move to a plantation model.
The timber industry says it needs certainty of supply from our native forests to guarantee jobs.
