The charity offers donated used goods for the savvy bargain hunter, and all monies raised go towards supporting cancer victims and finding a cure.
Founding member Truda Ward said everyone gets a bargain at the Rally Shed.
“We worked out a couple could furnish an entire three bedroom house with everything from beds to cutlery and brooms for about $350,” she said.
“I don’t think it gets much better than that.”
Mrs Ward said although the goods they sell are donated, they aren’t free.
“We don’t get things for nothing – people donate their items in good faith that the money raised from them will go to help sick children,” she said.
Volunteers work tirelessly to fulfil that good faith, many of them older women.
“Because of petrol costs and things, we are not raising as much as we did in the first six years,” Mrs Ward said.
“But the only money we take out is for petrol, registration, and insurance. It’s to keep going,” Mrs Ward said.
Now the organisation that has helped so many is in need of a helping hand itself.
“Our truck is not going to last,” Mrs Ward said.
“The driver has to stop and get out every twenty minutes and put water in the radiator.
“We really, really need help.”
Mrs Ward has faith the community will come together to support the rally shed, just like she has faith scientists will find a cure.
“People say we are stupid, that the chemical companies will never allow a cure,” she said.
“Well, we went and visited them, and the people there, they have children, they have parents, they have families, and they want a cure too.”
Mrs Ward said there were a number of ways for people to support the rally shed.
“We’re hopefully looking for a pantec truck or something with a lifter for the heavy furniture.
“A gentleman has created a GoFundMe page.
“There are cash boxes at the IGA in Tomakin, and if people would like to donate they can put the money in an envelope with their name and address with the amount given and we will send them a tax receipt.
“Also, if any strong young people have time on Wednesday and Saturday to come and help lift furniture and things like that, it would be very much appreciated.”
