The year that was, and the stories that defined it – we’re bringing you the biggest moments of 2017.
In January, Batemans Bay and Moruya rang in the New Year with a Tiger’s coach, a heroic surf recue and a frightening ‘rage attack’.
February saw Broulee women shine on the national stage, siblings reunited across time and space and cultural fishing debates heat up.
Mtundu settled in to Mogo in March, while rowers reunited and Eurobodalla women turned tragedy into a gift.
April left some with Easter egg on their face, Batemans Bay’s masterful women proved they were also golden girls, and a distressing discovery was made at Joe’s Creek, when a walker found a body.
In May Farann Mathie played polocrosse for Australia – and smashed South Africa while she was at it. Bay brekkie brawlers were convicted, and the Eurobodalla rallied around Eli Chatfield.
June marks the beginning of winter, but region showed it’s fiery spirit was undiminished. Cassie Staples got the go-ahead to represent Australia for the rugby 7’s in France, Quota ladies made a pledge to step up for health, and Tina Philip received an Order of Australia Medal for her services to mental health.
In July, Jonah Slockee-Albert ran after hoop dreams, Mogo farewelled an iconic duo, and a car chase ended in a jail cell.
August saw a long march make its way through the Eurobodalla, children let down by the NDIS and a stern chase in the Bay.
Eurobodalla girls hit the rugby league scene hard enough to make their mark in September. Emergency services prevented a fire at Dunn’s Creek becoming a disaster, and a Eurobodalla teen was sacked for voting ‘no’.
In October, Wildlife Rescue South Coast provided safe pouches for joeys and the Eurobodalla touched the NRL grand final.
In November we went viral with blistering bluebottles. Dragon boaters bring home gold from the masters games in Tasmania and a Millingandi man faced extradition to the US from Batemans Bay court.
December saw the Batemans Bay pool debate heat up, a mother was found not guilty of attempted murder and Willinga Park hosted an endurance training day.
