Woman dead after Christmas Day fire destroys South Coast home

Moruya resident Eric Wiseman was at the Tura Beach property, Merimbula, at the time and has written a heartfelt letter of thanks to emergency crews (see Letters, page 7).

“Until they moved to Tura Beach ten or so years ago, Suzy operated the Thyme Garden Gallery on North Head Drive, Moruya,” Mr Wiseman said. 

Police said the fire broke out at 12.30am. A 67-year-old man was rescued suffering smoke inhalation, but the fire was too intense to continue searching. Crews later found the body of a 61-year-old woman.
