Three young girls from Batemans Bay will get the opportunity to represent their state next year at the Budgies National Indigenous School Girls Tournament on the Gold Coast.
The selection is testament to the talent of the three girls, who all play both netball and basketball together.
Nakiah-Jayde Smith, Shanaya Williams-Schillings, and Kaliyah Smith have all been selected in the NSW Indigenous U12 Echidna’s Netball team.
This is the second straight year that Shanaya will represent her state, as she played in the same tournament earlier this year.
Shanaya will also represent her country in basketball next month at the Pacific School Games in Adelaide.
The selection is testament to the talent of the three girls, who all play both netball and basketball together.
The girls now need to get together the funds necessary for the trip, as it is expected to cost $2500 for each girl to play.
Shanaya’s mother Kathryn Williams said the girls would be organising some fundraising activities themselves, but also asked for the community’s help. She said the girls were not only representing themselves, but also their wider communities.
