Politics may be dry for some, but Eurobodalla Shire high school students Annabelle Smith and Kelarney Blunden sank their teeth into this years NSW Youth Parliament.
“It was amazing, the best experience ever,” Annabelle said.
“It was everything I expected and more. The people were amazing.
“I got a broader view of what’s happening in NSW and what people find important and how I can help change it.”
Kelarney echoed her sentiments, saying the experience was nothing like what she anticipated.
“I was surprised at how many kids were there – over 100, boys and girls, years seven to ten, from all over NSW,” she said.
Both students presented a speech to the NSW Parliament.
“Speaking in front of everyone was daunting,” Annabelle said.
“But everyone smiled at you. Because there were so many of us, and we are all so young, we could work through it together as a group.”
“The speeches were all really good,” Kelarney said.
“Some were just amazing, people had really researched their topic.”
The girls said it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
“That memory will last forever,” Kelarney said.
“I learnt not to take things like this for granted.
“You’ll probably never meet these people again so just go for it and put yourself out there.”
