A protest group is hoping for a big answer to the question: “How many people will fit into Batemans Bay pool?”
The Pack the Pool group hopes to do just that on November 25, at 10.30am.
Members “believe the only way to keep a 50-metre pool in Batemans Bay, is by an overwhelming show of support for the current pool”.
Eurobodalla Shire Council’s draft concept plan for the Mackay Park precinct includes a year-round indoor 25-metre pool, toddler pool and hydrotherapy pool.
The group fears the demolition and replacement of the current 50 metre lap pool … may leave the town short-changed for generations to come,” spokesperson Andrew Belk said.
“The community says it wants a 50-metre pool. The council says the demand is not there to justify the cost. The time for talk is over. The best chance the community has to ensure we keep 50 metre capacity is to use the pool we have. All of us. As much as possible. Right now.
“Go for a swim. Take your kids. Take your grandkids. Get a group together and have a paddle. It’s easy. It’s cheap. It’s healthy and its fun.
“Older and retired people particularly need to get to the pool and support it in the name of the kids and young people of this town.
“Inflatable flamingo’s welcome,” he said.
