Bay Life Church practises what it preaches – the church has partnered with Global Care (the social justice and disaster relief arm of the International Network of Churches) to provide a food bank in Batemans Bay.
“We really just started because we saw a need around here, and after seeing shows like War on Waste, we thought, ‘there must be something we can do’,” organiser Christine Murray said.
“We thought we’d just see what we could do. Someone from ALDI approached us, and that’s how it started.
“Now we’re coming up to two years of running the program,” Mrs Murray said.
“We have five or six volunteers – we run it as much as we can based on who we have available.” Mrs Murray said.
They don’t want to be preached at or any strings, but to be cared for. And we’ve found a way to do that.- Christine Murray
“It’s absolutely made a difference, and it isn’t just a food thing.
“It’s about people coming together.
“Some people just come for a cuppa and somebody different to talk to.
