Two young girls who are trying their hand at acting in a young adult production are gaining a wealth of knowledge from their more experienced cast members.

The production, House on Fire, Bay Theatre Players’ third show for 2017, can be seen on the Playhouse stage from October 15-28.
Amarlia Jaksic, the production’s youngest cast member, is a student at Batemans Bay High, where her favourite subjects are music and art. She “trod the boards” in last year’s youth production, Haphazardly Ever After and enjoyed herself so much she decided to audition for House.
“I thought it was a long shot so was really excited to be offered a role. It’s great to be involved in a drama, and with an adult cast. I am learning so much,” Amarlia said.
Liarna Miller, who attends Carroll College, is new to theatre and to the Playhouse stage. She loves art, and also photography and drawing.
She attended a recent audition skills workshop where she was encouraged to audition for House.
“I started in theatre to build my confidence, to meet new people and do something I enjoy,” Liarna said. “I particularly love designing and I hope one day to be an architect.”
House director, Lyn Sterling, said, “I can see these two girls growing in confidence and ability at every rehearsal.
“They are developing their characters and finding the fun in stepping into a different persona for their roles in House on Fire.”
Please come along to BTP’s monthly play reading on Wednesday, September 20, when we will be reading the classic Daphne du Maurier story, Rebecca.
“This adaptation by Clifford Williams tells the story of Max de Winter as he brings his shy young bride to Manderley,” play reading co-ordinator, Tay Mugridge, said.
“Everywhere, she senses the overpowering presence of Rebecca, Max’s drowned wife. Max’s grim housekeeper will not allow her to forget her shortcomings. She doubts Max’s love but when Rebecca’s body is found ...”
Everyone is welcome to BTP’s play readings. If you have any suggestions, or want to read a play, please contact Tay on 0419 127 679.
