Recent announcements about the planned location of the new Batemans Bay bridge seem to have raised more questions than answers.
Your comments online were mostly concerned with the fate of On the Pier restaurant, considering the close proximity of the proposed bridge.
The state government’s preferred route for the bridge is just east of the popular restaurant. The Bay Post/Moruya Examiner has approached owner Alan Imrie for comment.
There was also concern about whether the new bridge would affect the Mackay Park development, and whether the transition from four lanes to two would cause bottle necks.
Most of you, however, seem more interested in how long it will take the project to get off the ground.
One reader, Hrvoje Hančević-Grabić, used social media to express concern about projected savings: “The idea of savings is flawed. $300m, let's say $150m for the bridge. If maintenance is $1m per year, that is enough for 150 years of maintenance (not adjusting for inflation). The new bridge will need maintenance too. It's not that simple.”
