Moruya will host a bewhiskered hoard when entrants meet at The Waterfront hotel to contest the shire’s foremost – only? – beard competition.
Heathenfest cheiftan Luke Worthington said men, and hirsute women, could enter their beards in one of three categories: best viking beard, longest and fullest beard, and bush-ranger beard.
If you have a beard that made Bob Dylan’s look good, the last category is for you.
“The bush-ranger category is for every unfortunate that can’t grow a proper beard. Like you have been wondering around in the bush for a couple of months and can only manage some scruffy tufts,” Mr Worthington said.
Entry to the beard competition will be by gold-coin donation, with proceeds going to Beyond Blue and White Ribbon.
To say Heathenfest was just about the beards would be a bald-faced lie; Mr Worthington said he was stoked with his metal band lineup on the winter solstice.
“I’m always keen to see Terravorous from Batemans Bay,” the South Coast Metalheads president said.
“And Inhuman Remnants are one of my favourite bands in the world. They look intimidating – the lead singer is a behemoth – but they are just the nicest guys,” Mr Worthington said.
The crowd will knock on heathen’s door at The Waterfront, Moruya, from 4pm on Saturday, June 3. The beard competition runs from 6pm, and bands from 7.30pm.
