The shire’s young musicians have a chance to hone their performance skills and win some financial assistance into the bargain.
The St Cecilia Music Scholarships are open to aspiring virtuosos under 18, no matter their preferences: classical or rock, brass or voice.
Chris Heazlewood was unanimously elected president of the St Cecilia committee at the group’s recent annual general meeting. Two new members were welcomed to the committee; Lou Lassau and Marion Roubos-Bennett.

Mr Heazlewood said the committee would be working hard to organise the auditions for the scholarships – worth $5000 – to be held on October 21 and 22.
“We are also in the early stages of readying ourselves for the Gala Finalist's Concert on November 26,” Mr Heazlewood said.
“It will be at St Bernards Church in Batehaven; this year starting at the earlier time of 3pm. It is certainly not too early to pencil the concert into your diary,” he said.
“It is not an event to be missed.”
