A selection of the Eurobodalla’s brightest young track stars have made their mark at the Australian Athletics Championships held at Sydney Olympic Park.
Jaylah Hancock-Cameron, Rhys Flood, Rumer Williams, Byron Van Dyk and Asha Martin joined more than 3500 athletes, 300 officials, 200 coaches and thousands of spectators at the meet, which was held from March 26 to April 2.
The Broulee pair of Jaylah and Rhys were among the best performers, with the former coming second in the 800m and 1500m events, while the latter beat his personal best by 19 seconds to claim third place in the steeple chase.
The Australian Athletics Championships were held between 26 March and 2 April 2017 at Sydney Olympic Park.
The local athletes have been trained by Andae Kalemusic as part of the Limitless track team, where they have made trips to Sydney and Canberra throughout the past 12 months to compete and gain racing experience.
Australian Championship results:
Jaylah HANCOCK-CAMERON (Moruya High)- 2nd in the 800m and 2nd in 1500m.
Rhys FLOOD (Carroll College)- 3rd in 2km steeplechase.
Rumer WILLIAMS, (St Peters Anglican College)- 5th in the 3km steeplechase in a 9 second personal best. She was also the NSW Champion in this event.
Byron VAN DYK, (St Peters Anglican College)- 5th in the 800m in a personal best and 6th in the 400m final. Byron was 2nd in both of these events at the NSW Championships
Asha MARTIN, (Moruya High)- 9th in 1500m and 12th in 3km, She was 3rd in the 1500m and 2nd in the 3km at the NSW Championships
