Whether in a wheelchair or on legs, children visiting the Eurobodalla’s all-abilities playground are in a whirl.
A carousel which can hold three wheelchairs and a gang of running, spinning children holds pride of place in architect Fiona Robbé’s mind.
The Architects of Arcadia designer was in Batehaven on Saturday for the launch of her 21st inclusive playground – and the shire’s first.
“I am proudest of this carousel,” she said.
“Anyone and everyone can have a ride.
“You could have a mobility issue, you could have a sensory impairment, you could be old, you could be young, you could have a go on this gorgeous piece of gear.”
The park is the brainchild of fundraisers Charles Stuart and Geoff Fielding and their group, The Bay Push and was achieved with significant NSW Government and Eurobodalla Shire Council support, and with the generous donations of many groups and individuals.
The Bay Push is now chasing up to $700,000 for stage two of the project, which would include climbing frames, a water feature and more.
