The first round of the 2017 Batemans Bay RC Club series was held on February 3, despite an attempt by mother nature to wash it out.
After the excess water was swept off, a fast, grippy track was left for competitors to race on.
The Junior 2wd category was dominated by Andrew McGee, who qualified first and won all three heats.
Second went to Jesse Evans while 3rd was taken by Douglas D'Amico.
The 2wd Senior category was a father and son battle between Brian and Ethan Kelland, who were both vying for the top qualification spot.
Brian may have got the TQ, but once the finals came around, it was his son, Ethan, in control as he went on to win the first two heats by healthy margins.
Brian came back in the 3rd final to take the win but a second for Ethan was enough to secure the overall.
There was an engaging battle for 3rd, with Kyle Constable taking the position and preventing a Kelland family sweep.
In the 4wd 1/10th, Sean Dean returned to the fold after missing several meets during the off-season.
It didn’t take long for him to find his rhythm, taking Top Qualifier, before walk away from the field to win all three finals by a lap. Andrew McGee finished second in his new buggy which had a great first outing. Tyrone Baker was able to secure third place.
There was some drama in the 1/8th Open with TQ Tim Cassidy having mechanical dramas in the second qualification heat and being unable to repair his Nitro Truggy for the finals.
This left Sean Dean to clean up all three finals and take two classes on the day.
