The Batemans Bay Under 12s cricket team have finished the preliminary rounds of the Shoalhaven District Junior Cricket Competition in second place after a first innings victory over Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemens Club last weekend.
Among the standout performers for the Bay was Lachlan Malcolm, who made solid contributions with both the bat and ball.
On a rain-interrupted first day, the Bay won the toss and batted well to finish at 2/172 after 34 overs.
Runs came from Luke Gallen 37, Bailey Brady 35, Malcolm 26 who all retired not out, while Mark Tuckwell made 25.
In their first innings, Shoalhaven’s stout resistance didn’t last long, with the Bay bowlers restricting them to 83 in 31 overs.
Malcolm led the attack with 3/6m, while Luke Shooks chimed in with 2/13.
Searching for an outright victory with only 16 overs of play left, Bay made Shoalhaven follow on and soon had them on the ropes with Malcolm (3/4) and Brady (2/6) again spearheading the attack.
Shoalhaven managed to hold on until stumps, finishing at 5/21.
The result saw Bay confirm second place and a home semi-final against Shoalhaven this coming weekend.
Both Bay and minor premiers, Berry Shoalhaven Heads, only lost one match each in the preliminary rounds, but unfortunately the loss of several days of cricket to poor weather throughout the season cost Bay the opportunity to accumulate more points.
