A commercial fishing outfit caught more than they bargained for when they reeled in a boat raid from NSW DPI Fisheries officers on Wednesday, January 11.
The officers were conducting a patrol in the Batemans Marine Park when they witnessed a boat allegedly deploying trawl nets in the area.
Batemans Marine Park covers the Far South Coastline, running from Brush Island in the north down to Murunna Point in the south.
Officers approached the vessel by a Fisheries patrol boat and ordered the net to be retrieved.
Fisheries officers escorted the vessel to Ulladulla Harbour, where it was met by police and other Fisheries staff.
Fisheries officers spoke to the captain and confiscated fishing equipment.
Charges may be laid under the Marine Estate Management Act 2014 and the Fisheries Management Act 1994.
