
Roads and Maritime has launched a program to help boaters dispose of expired smoke distress flares, with mobile collection points set up along the NSW South Coast.
The majority of flares have a use-by date of only three years and they must be replaced before the expiry date otherwise penalties apply.
The collection program kicks off in the Shoalhaven on January 14 at the Orient Point Crookhaven Heads Boat Ramp between 8am - 11am, and will travel to boat ramps along the NSW coast until the end of January.
Expired flare disposal will be available at the following locations:
Batemans Bay Hanging Rock Boat Ramp - Hanging Rock Place, Batemans Bay (Next to Marine Rescue NSW base) Tuesday, January 17, 8am - 11am and 2pm – 5pm.
Bermagui Bermagui Harbour Boat Ramp - Off Lamont Street, Bermagui Wednesday, January 18, 2pm - 5pm.
Eden Quarantine Bay Boat Ramp - Quarantine Bay Road, Eden (Off Princes Highway) Friday, January 20, 8am - 11am.
