Four Moruya High teams competed in the NSW state championships at the University of NSW on August 26 and 27.
Students participated in soccer and rescue events with their Lego-based robot creations.
There were standout performances in the Light Weight Soccer division, with teams placing third and fifth.
Other teams placed eighth in the Gen2 Soccer division and 11th in Secondary Rescue.
Since 2013, Information Technology teacher Cathie Webber has coordinated the school’s robotics group and witnessed its growth.
“It’s a great experience for them (the students),” Ms Webber said.
“You see them learn so much and build on skills for the next competition.”
Despite having faced tough competition from elite private and selective high schools, her students rose to the challenge.
“We did really well and I’m really pleased.”
“There’s a lot of non-government schools involved. The more public schools get involved, the better off it’s going to be, because it will become a more even playing field,” she said.
The rescue team is now preparing to compete at the national championships on September 17 and 18 in Sydney.
