The function was well attended and taking the stage were Gilmore candidate Carmel McCallum, Eden-Monaro candidate Tamara Ryan, NSW Senator Lee Rhiannon, and former Greens senator, environmentalist, and GP Bob Brown.
The candidates articulated their commitment to preventing climate change, ensuring the equitable and universal access to education and healthcare services for Australians, to the fair taxation of big business, and the separation of politics from the commercial interests of for-profit organisations.
Local areas of focus included strengthening the regional communications network, improving employment opportunities, supporting education, including local TAFE, and promoting sustainable energy use and fishing practices.
The event was also an opportunity to launch local artist and environmental advocate Jeff Aschmann's CD, Songs of the Planet.
The function was attended by supporters from the Shoalhaven Bat Conservation Society who brought along a special guest – Winston. Winston, or “Winnie” is a grey-headed flying fox who assists the clinic in educating the public about valuable native wildlife.
