“Roads and Maritime Services is finalising the scope of work for safety upgrades of the Princes Highway between Batemans Bay and Mogo after a safety investigation was completed last year,” an RMS spokesman said.  

A 55-year-old woman was taken to Batemans Bay Hospital after the accident in a northbound lane on the ‘mad Mile shortly before 11.30am on Friday.

A black sedan rolled onto its roof, partially blocking the inside lane near the Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Garden turn on the highway.

Calls for people to treat this section of road with respect and for authorities to improve it proliferated on social media after an appeal went out in the Bay Post/Moruya Examiner before Friday’s accident. 

A regular driver on the road begged drivers to slow down and drive to the conditions after witnessing a crash in heavy rain earlier in the week. He had seen several others.

Alan D Morton said “nothing wrong with the road...its all about driving to the conditions...keep a gap from the vehicle in front, and look up ahead for dangers...slow down it’s easy!!!”

Allan Brown said “the road surface is always slippery in that area, the RMS is aware of it too.”

Viv Campbell said “The road is not safe as long as those of us observing the rules are endangered by the hoons.”

Scott Norman disagreed. “Hoons are not the issue here. The last crash I witnessed on that road was an 84-year-old woman.”
