Yesterday, Martha joined with nine others to become Australian citizens, at a ceremony at the Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Gardens.
The new life in South Durras didn’t pan out quite as planned but Martha and her daughter decided to stay.
“Here I was, my belongings in a bin liner, and I am trying to pretend everything’s fine,” Martha said.
“My neighbours were so welcoming; beyond welcoming actually. My daughter and I have been embraced. By our neighbours, by the community, by Bay High, by my co-workers.”
Indeed several of Martha’s neighbours and co-workers were there to cheer her on, the shire’s newest Aussie.
