The Surfside double-leg amputee will receive a new set of prosthetic limbs in August under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) after a six-month wait.
Mr Rossiter said he encountered teething problems with the NDIS when his initial plan covered only half the cost of the construction and fitting of the prosthetics, quoted at $15,400.
Exciting news came for Mr Rossiter last Monday when his package was finally updated to cover the full cost of the new limbs, which will be fitted at Momentum Sports and Rehabilitation in Canberra.
“I’m really excited and thankful,” Mr Rossiter said.
“The new legs will have a system where I put on a gel sock with a rubber seal and will slide into a brand new socket.”
Mr Rossiter said his new legs would provide greater flexibility in the knee and ankle joints, incorporating a hydraulic system and carbon fibre feet.
The new limbs will also be waterproof, enabling Mr Rossiter to fully enjoy his coastal community.
As for the first thing he plans to do with his new legs: “Go for a walk along Surfside and round to Korners Park. I had a fair bit to do with the redesign of that, so it’s very close to my heart”.
