The team have assisted with environmental works across the Eurobodalla Shire and have worked on dozens of sites and projects including weed control, revegetation, erosion control, litter collection, fencing and track maintenance.

They are to be commended for their willingness to learn, their commitment and enthusiasm.

And the journey doesn’t end here, with several graduates from locally run programs having found employment in related fields after benefitting from their on the job training.

One of the more recent graduates has even gone on to supervise her own Green Army team in a neighbouring council area.

Each Green Army team works for six months where participants are exposed to a range of environmental works and potential employers.

Whilst Eurobodalla Shire Council has acted as host and sponsor for all of the teams, the Green Army have not been confined to works in council reserves.

They have also been able to assist on a wide range of projects and meet a variety of potential employers.

This has included working at The Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Gardens, with Local Land Services and National Parks and Wildlife Service.

The aim of the program is essentially to give the participants, aged 17-24, the skills, training and experience to improve their employment prospects.

The projects that they participate in generate real and lasting benefits for the environment and heritage places.

Eurobodalla Shire Council has been successful with another application to host their 5th Green Army Team with works to begin in late March working through till September.

Council looks forward to meeting another team of youthful and energetic participants who will no doubt follow in the footsteps of teams past and deliver a great service to our community and environment.

Of course you don’t have to be a member of the Green Army to help our local environment. Landcare volunteers protect natural areas through planting, weeding, litter collection, education events and other environmental activities.
