Canberra has again come calling for members of the Eurocoast Triathlon Club, with members making the trip over the hill last Sunday for an event.
A water temperature in Lake Burley Griffin of 21 degrees meant that wet suits were allowed to be worn in the swim leg, assisting the buoyancy of the athletes and providing a faster swim leg.
Parkes Way was closed off for the bike leg, which allowed athletes to race on relatively smooth roads.
The run leg was through part of the Floriade section of Commonwealth Park, providing a scenic backdrop between there and the lake.
In the Olympic (Standard) distance event of a 1.5km swim, 40km bike ride and 10km run, Lachlan Brown won his age division in a time of 2:20:11.
Ivo Ahlquist raced in the same event, but in a different age group, and placed second.
The club had more entrants in the Sprint distance race (750m swim, 20km bike, 5 km run).
Adrian Connor placed 4th in his age group (40-44), with a race time of 1:14:30, while in the 55-59 year age group Michael Overend came 2nd in a time of 1:25:32, Gary Ashton was 3rd, in a time of 1:26:53, and Stephen Phipps was 4th in a time of 1:27:54.
Club members now move into preparation mode for our home event, the Batemans Bay Triathlon Festival, to be held on 23 April.
Any inquiries about the club should be directed to its secretary, Ray Davidson, via email to aztec@southernphone.com.au
