Forestry Corporation of NSW’s Protection Planner Rob Young said hazards such a falling branches continue for some time after a fire.
The Mogo State Forest was reopened after a five-day, 234 hectare hazard-reduction burn, west of Surf Beach and Batehaven, and south of Catalina.
“Completing hazard reduction burns is a critical part of Forestry Corporation’s role protecting the region from wildfires and our firefighters have now significantly reduced the risk of a bushfire taking hold in the warmer months and threatening nearby homes,” Mr Young said.
“Hazard reduction burns are one of the best and safest ways to reduce bushfire risk for the local community and, with Mogo State Forest situated right alongside Batemans Bay, this was an essential bushfire prevention measure.”
