In conjunction with the Cancer Council NSW, Ms McCrossin has presented 10 interview-style podcasts on topics relevant to people living with cancer.
Ms McCrossin, herself a cancer survivor, said podcasts were one of the country’s fastest growing content mediums, and The Thing About Cancer series would feature expert guests and people with personal experience.
‘Explaining cancer to kids’ is one that I think will resonate with a lot of families in the Eurobodalla.

“We know that every year in the southern NSW region alone, it is estimated that approximately 1505 people will be diagnosed with cancer,” Ms McCrossin said.
“Often they are dealing with complex decisions that require an understanding of cancer, its treatment, and its ongoing management. That’s why this podcast series is such a great resource for people affected by cancer in the Eurobodalla shire. The episode Explaining cancer to kids is one that I think will resonate with a lot of families in the Eurobodalla.
“The thing about cancer is it can feel like a really tough thing to explain to kids. You ask yourself - how much do they need to know? Isn’t it better to protect them? Won’t it just confuse and scare them? And what about teenagers – how much can they handle?
“We’ll talk to an expert who has supported kids affected by the cancer diagnosis of a parent or someone else close to them,” she said.
Cancer Council NSW’s community engagement coordinator Kate Brett said the podcasts were a good medium for people who were time poor, too unwell to read, or with low literacy or poor vision.
“This is a first for Cancer Council,” Ms Brett said.
“The podcast series will be another source of trusted information for people to turn to, complementing our existing cancer information resources.”
Topics include explaining cancer to kids, new cancer treatments, and sex and cancer, among others. The free podcasts are available from the Cancer Council NSW website or the iTunes store.
