Edward James Heycox, 26, of North Narooma, faced Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday, charged with one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and damaging property.
Defence solicitor Adam Sumbak said Heycox was dropping off a barbecue at his neighbour’s house when he was taunted and provoked by people at the victim’s home.
Police said Heycox broke down the front door of the home and confronted the victim and his brother in the living room.
“The victim was at home listening to some loud music for about half an hour,” police said.
“Suddenly, the lounge room door flew open. The offender stood before them (the victim and his brother) yelling ‘Turn the f---ing music down you c---’.
“The offender got up to turn the music down when the offender grabbed him by the front of his shirt with two hands."
Police said Heycox threw the victim into the door frame of the kitchen, causing him to hit his face on the cupboard. The victim lost a tooth and suffered a split lip in the assault.
Heycox later told police he knew he had done the wrong thing.
“I just lost it. I know it was wrong,” he said.
Mr Sumbak said the offence was “out of character” for Heycox and was the first matter on his criminal record.
Magistrate Doug Dick fined him $2000 and placed him on a two-year good behaviour bond.
