Vets
Monday, 30 January, 2017 heralded commencement of the Mid South Coast Veterans Golf Association intra-club year-long tournament. The venue was Shoalhaven Heads Golf Club and quite frankly the weather was lousy; hot, humid with only the occasional sea breeze.
This however did not deter our team of 16 carefully selected from a number of candidates well in excess of that.
The Challenge Shield, which is based on the best 7 players on the first 9 holes Catalina was placed sixth. It gets better.
The Interclub Shield, is the best 7 players over 18 holes. Catalina was placed second.
And now for the all-important Albatross Trophy result. This requires input from all 16 players because all scores over the 18 holes are totalled and then divided by 16.
Catalina after round one is FIRST on 32.25.
The next time the team travel is on Monday, 20 February, 2017 with the venue being Callala RSL Country Club.
As the hot weather continues so does the golf as evidenced by the scores. On Thursday 2nd February 2017 no less than 17 of the 92 starters equalled or were better than their handicap.
The 9 hole Stableford event was played on the red course and success belongs to the following:
A Grade
Gerry Martin (handicap 9) 1st (ocb) with 20 points
Greg Smeaton (9) 2nd on 20 points
Nearest the pin on the 7th was Mark Newcombe
B Grade
Don Wallace (20) 1st with 22 points
Warren Harper (18) 2nd on 21 points
Nearest the pin on the 7th was Ray Hartley
C Grade
Lionel Noel Pellow (26) 1st with 22 points
Stanley Geale (28) 2nd on 20 points
Nearest the pin on the 7th was Lionel Noel Pellow
(He certainly had a big day out)
The distribution of balls went to 17 points.
