Pool operator Eurobodalla Aquatics is looking to appoint two full-time staff: a learn-to-swim coordinator and a head swimming coach for the Moruya and Narooma pools.
Managing director Brad Paterson said Eurobodalla said they had successfully recruited for both position with signed employment contracts. However, days before commencing work, both applicants resigned for personal reasons, leaving the pool contractor scrambling to find staff.
“Moruya local Isabelle Pykeagreed to extend her arrangement to deliver learn to swim at Batemans Bay pool to include Moruya pool,” Mr Paterson said.
“These lessons are now fully booked at Moruya and regrettably some families have missed out.
Mr Paterson said he was doing all he could to attract qualified staff and looking at trainee-ships for motivated community members wanting to pursue a career.
He said, with an industry-wide shortage, it was particularly hard to attract swim-staff to the Eurobodalla, where two pools are outdoor and only open part of the year.
“We do hope to turn this around with our full-time employment model,” Mr Paterson said.
The Eurobodalla Shire Council recreation manager Mark Upson said council would investigate partnering with the pool operator to offer subsidies to residents prepared to undertake learn-to-swim training.
