Harry Young’s picture Blue Crush has been included in the Postcards From Your Town 2017 calendar for ActewAGL.
The shot of Broulee’s Cameron Mcardle was taken earlier this year in the South Durras area.
Although the 15-year-old photographer won’t reveal just where Blue Crush was taken, fearing it would crush the spirits of fellow surfers, he admitted the secret to its electric blue colour was “a clean swell” and enough gap between waves to let the water settle.
“The waves were not really straight after each other, so it had time to clean up,” Harry said.
“That is why the wave is so blue, not white.
“That was my best one of the day.”
Harry knew he was onto a winner before the next wave formed, as he can see the results of his photography while still in the water.
He gained entry to the national calendar two years ago with another surfing picture taken at South Broulee, and has started a business as a wedding photographer – Harry Young Images.
“There is not a lot of money in surf photography, unless you are one of the best,” he said.
He attends Carroll College and Cameron attends Batemans Bay High School.
