He has big brown eyes and the cutest little smile that curls up in the corners of his mouth.
We met in a far away place, high up in the mountains along a difficult and flooded road.
He has been fighting for his life against all odds, abandoned and alone, before a human should even have to face the world.
This is why I live, this is what I do.
Every child deserves to be loved and a piece of my heart belongs to him.
I wrote this while living in hospital, being a mum to an abandoned very premi baby, a role which I shared with two other amazing Haitian women.
I have been privileged to work with the wonderful Morgan and all the Little Footprints, Big
Steps staff in Les Cayes for the past month.
They work tirelessly for the children of Haiti.
It really does take a village to raise a child.
Little Footprints, Big Steps works in child protection, rescue, rehabilitation and reunification.
I assisted with the medical portion of the program, caring for everything from surgical cases to critically ill abandoned children.
I also delivered educational packages on HIV, Tuberculosis and female reproductive disease to the community health workers.
They are now equipped with more information to help create healthier communities, for the children we care for.
I am hoping to share my time in Haiti between port au prince and Les cayes.
Unfortunately, living in Les Cayes where I work with Little Footprints, Big Steps, is proving more expensive then I anticipated.
I am reaching out for your support so I can continue to be there for the children of Haiti, helping them create their brighter future.
