RELATED: Steve ready for Shitbox journey
A father and son team will dress as everything from Toy Story characters to Donald Trump as they drive the Oodnadatta Track through the desert for charity.
Eurobodalla businessman Steve Caunt and his son Lachlan are part of the 2017 Shitbox Rally, where 200 or more cars, bought for less than $1000, will be driven from Adelaide to Cairns over the country’s most arduous outback roads to raise money for cancer research.
Entrants wear a costume to fit a different theme each day.
“One day the theme could be yellow,” Steve Caunt said.
“I’ll go as Woody, from Toy Story, for that.
“Another day is Donald Trump – the outback will see a lot of the United States President,” Mr Caunt said.
Mr Caunt will drive an old RBT van.

“I am lending the old booze bus, that Frankies Auto Electrics use each year,” he said.
“It has been in each of the ten Shitbox races.”
Mr Caunt said the purchase cost of the vehicles must not exceed $1000, but then you could spend as much as you wanted to do them up.
“This RBT van has been done up as the barbecue and refreshments vehicle by its usual drivers,” he said.
The Fire Service Plus owner said the week-long, 3800 kilometre rally was not a race.
The team who raises the most money wins.
Last year, Mr Caunt participated in the Mysterybox Rally, with another son, Kyle, and raised $27,000. He said he was well on the way to raising another $30,000 for the Shitbox Rally.
So far, the 2017 Shitbox Rally has raised more than $1.3 million. To donate to https://shitboxrallyau-2017.everydayhero.com/au/009-speed-and-fire
