Artists participating in this competition were required to produce artwork that reflected the theme of conserving our precious water.
Carmel’s triptych titled “Every Precious Drop” was announced the winner of the Open 2D works. Carmel’s winning painting comprises three panels.
Panel one depicts crystal clear blue water with detailed air bubbles. Panel two is a typed list of all the ways to conserve our water. This panel was then drawn back into with 3D water droplets and a message to the viewer, hidden within the text.
Panel three shows an aerial shot of dry, parched earth and the beginning of a river system making its way across the land, bringing with it new life and growth.
After the triptych was matted, Carmel drew more water droplets onto the mat frame, carrying the theme of water past the painting itself.
