The Moruya-South Head Cycle/Pathway Committee wants the project included in the Eurobodalla Pathways Strategy, after campaigning since 2000 for its early stages.
The committee said the original goal was for a safe off-road shared pathway from Moruya to South Head.
Volunteers had built 4.4kms of the path with Eurobodalla Shire Council, state and federal support.
“There is only 2.6kms to go - the missing link from Keightly Street, Moruya to The Anchorage, South Head,” the committee said.
Committee president John Seltenrych said the campaign had considerable support, but time was of the essence.
“We are not getting any younger and look forward to been able to pour footpaths again," he said.
The committee thanked the shire for its support, but urged councillors to keep the project in the pathways strategy.
Former councillor Danielle Brice was a founding campaigner since her teenage son Chris died after being struck by a car on South Head Road in August 2008.
Mrs Brice will speak at the shire meeting on Tuesday, June 27.
"I feel this is my last chance to speak to this important project that I have nurtured for the last nine years." Mrs Brice said.
Chris' friends presented a petition to the council to continue the safe off-road shared pathway from Moruya to South Head.
Deputy Mayor Anthony Mayne has backed the project and its “shovel ready” volunteers.
