Women and men from around the Bay and beyond came together to share a slice of pizza and watch a movie to promote the White Ribbon message and say no to violence against women.

South Coast Police District Inspector Angela Burnell thanked the community for their ongoing support.

"The statistics are frightening. In Australia, one woman loses her life every week due to domestic violence, and this simply isn't good enough,” Inspector Burnell said.

“This type of violence shouldn't been happening in our society today at all. Everyone has a part to play in stopping this epidemic.

“Through events like this, the awareness of violence against women is spread and overtly we are saying that we just don't accept it in our patch.

“The capacity to stop it and stand up to men who commit violence against women is increased through campaigns such as White Ribbon Day and we are proud to be part of such a strong, powerful message"   

Senior Constable Flood continued this plea.

“If you hear domestic violence happening in your local area, report it to police,” Senior Constable Flood said.

“The report can be made anonymously.  

“Often, there are kids present during domestic violence incidents and we know that domestic violence has a lasting impact on a child’s life.

“You might be the one person, who can help stop that cycle for the women and her kids that is happening behind closed doors."
