Anglers have caught some nice bream this week targeting the deeper channel towards the front of the system.
Metal blades and Cranka crabs have worked extremely well. Baits like mullet fillets and worms are also producing bream.
Flathead are being caught around the town bridge area on the shallow sand flats. Soft plastics like Gulp swimming mullet have worked a treat.
Some reasonable sized whiting are coming in off the hospital flats with most fish caught using fresh beach worms.
Tuross River
Mulloway have been found as far up as the highway bridge lately with reports of an 86-centimetre fish landed using the ever faithful Squidgie drop bear soft plastic.
A lot of average size flathead are being caught throughout the system on both bait and soft plastics. 120mm bloodworm wrigglers and 70mm Squidgie fish are working well.
Bream seem to be schooling in the deeper sections of the channels, particularly along the rockwall near the boat shed.
Gulp shrimp on 1/8th jig heads have worked well, and metal blades also.
Rocks and Beaches
The salmon have been thick as of late with plenty of large fish landed off the rocks and beaches all up and down the coast.
Full pillies have worked best for bait and the Arma twist range of metal slugs have been the choice of lures.
Squid are coming in off the rocks using Yamashita jigs and a few drummer; also using baits like cunji and crabs.
A lot of whiting are being caught along the beaches, and they aren’t too far from the shoreline. Fresh worms and live yabbies working best for bait.
Offshore
Snapper have been on the bite in close around Pedro Point. Ten metres of water has seen some nice ones boated using soft plastics like Gulp jerk shads in nuclear chicken and Zman streakz in chicken glow.
The reefs are also producing some nice reds and all the other typical reef species on baits like tuna fillets and Lunds Californian squid.
The Flathead beds just off Windsock are holding some quality 50-to-55-centimetre fish in reasonable numbers. Pillies and squid are both working well.
