Batemans Bay Marine Rescue received a call for assistance just before 11am from the stricken jet-skis, both of which had experienced mechanical failure.
Marine Rescue Operations Manager Glenn Sullivan said bad luck led to the double breakdown.
“One jet-ski had broken down, and the other had gone to the aid of the broken down vessel,” he said.
“A towline was attached, and the towline was then sucked into the impeller of the second jetski, which rendered it redundant as well.
“Marine Rescue deployed Batemans 20 up to the area where they had located them.”
Heavy swells in the area impacted Marine Rescue’s ability to reach the jetskis.
“Due to the swell, and the Bomboras in the area, Marine Rescue couldn’t get to them,” Mr Sullivan said.
“The jet-ski operators had to jump off their jet-skis and swim them to shore, where they were located at Depot Beach.”
Mr Sullivan said life jackets played a big part in the good outcome.
“Because they were wearing life jackets, and being physically fit, they were able to swim the couple of hundred metres to shore,” he said.
“They did have to navigate the rocks to land on that beach, so they’ve done extremely well.”
