The pair made it a Moruya one-two in the Scientific Games 1020m Maiden Handicap, with HIll’s Jorgeus coming in less than a length ahead of Marzol’s Call Me Anything.
Hill said it was the filly’s race to lose.
“I expected her to win because she does have a lot of ability, but she is still very green and does some things wrong as well, so it could have gone either way,” she said.
“She still got a bit lost when she hit the front, but I was happy with the way the race panned out.
“It is always nice to get a win on your home track”
Marzol got to experience the feeling in the final race of the day as his gelding, Bill ‘N’ Eve finished first in the 1435m Class 2 Handicap ahead of his other starter, Excellent Oratorio.
He said the result was pleasing, if not a bit surprising.
“He definitely put his best foot forward to win it,” he said.
“I would have thought his stable mate would have been the one to beat.
You definitely wouldn’t want it to get much closer than that finish.”
The only other South Coast trainer to triumph on the day was Nowra’s Robert Price whose mare, Leami Astray, took out the 1020m Class 3 Handicap.
Trainers from the ACT were well represented on the day, with Joe Cleary, John Rolfe, Barbara Joseph and Paul Jones all recording wins.
