Twenty members enjoyed a 7km circuit to Illawong Nature Reserve near George Bass Drive. The Reserve primarily protects the Illawong Swamp which is home to a wide variety of bird and animal life.
Walkers marvelled at a huge sea eagle nest in the fork of a giant spotted gum, as well as enjoying views of Illawong Swamp and the adjoining Longvale Swamp.
The return leg took them along the banks of Candlagan Creek with its reed beds, mangroves and giant swamp mahogany trees growing horizontally from the creek bank.
Readers are invited to join with the club members for another weekend walk on Saturday, September 3, to Lemon Tree Creek. It is a 12-kilometre walk and is graded medium. Curious where Lemon Tree Creek is? Ring Jill on 0417273462. To find out more about the activities of the club visit www.baybushwalkers.org.au
