First to hit the pitch were the Strikers and Wanderers, with the former taking an early lead courtesy of an Alexa Warwick strike.
Their opponents levelled the score late in the first half, as a penalty corner led to Mel Musgrave finding the goal.
Some positional changes gave the Wanderers more strength going forward, and it wasn’t long before they again hit the lead, with Emma Lassau scoring her side’s second.
The Strikers almost managed to respond through a breakaway, but were unable to get past the Wanderers goalkeeper who managed to successfully halt their run.
Wanderers player Sarah Misko made them pay soon after, scoring her side’s third goal to seal a 3-1 victory and ensure their survival in the Association finals series.
Best on ground was Wanderers’ Sharon Curruthers.
In the other game, CBK came up against the Knights in a top of the table clash.
The match was always going to be tight, and both sides showing their quality in defence early on to leave the scores level at 0-0 after the first half. There were no shortage of chances from each team, but finishing proved difficult with neither attack able to make the breakthrough. The Knights eventually took charge in the second half, with a double to Deb Brook as well as a goal to Lindy Hudson securing a comfortable 3-0 win.
Lindsay Pepper was among the best players on the day.
Eurobodalla Hockey Association committee member, Cheryl Sutherland said the match was closer than the scoreline suggested.
“It was a very even match,” she said.
“CBK definitely had their opportunities but just couldn’t get it in the goal.”
The finals action continues this weekend with Knights taking on Wanderers for a spot in the grand final. The game starts at 2pm at Gundary Oval. The Eurobodalla Hockey Association will hold their presentation night on September 3 at Moruya Golf Club.
