Bega MP Andrew Constance presented the Batemans Bay and Moruya SES units with a certificate of appreciation from the Premier Mike Baird and Emergency Services Minister David Elliott for their response to the storm and floods affecting the state in April 2015.

The minister also awarded volunteers with a Commissioner’s Commendation, a Unit Citation and long service awards in recognition of volunteers’ service during recent flood operations.

“These awards are in recognition of the outstanding efforts shown by these wonderful members who have dedicated many years to volunteering for the NSW SES and helping the people of the Eurobodalla Shire and the people of New South Wales in their time of need,” Mr Constance said.

“I am also privileged to be awarding a unit citation to the NSW SES Moruya unit for the rescue of campers isolated by flood waters in the Bendethera camping ground in January this year,” Mr Constance said.

Mr Constance  awarded a certificate of appreciation  to five members of the Moruya unit and a Commissioner’s Commendation for Courage to NSW SES Moruya volunteer Martin Ransom, for the safe rescue efforts of a trapped family in a vehicle in Donalds Creek during flooding back in August 2014.

“While all volunteers in the NSW SES show an extraordinary level of commitment to their communities, award presentations such as this provide special recognition to those volunteers who go above and beyond. Thanks to these special volunteers’ skill and expertise, they were able to rescue these people from very dire situations, and for that the community thanks them,” said Mr Constance.

Acting NSW SES Commissioner Greg Newton also acknowledged the hard work and dedication of each volunteer who received their awards.

“The presentation of these awards is a fitting acknowledgment of the dedication and professionalism in which our volunteers from the Batemans Bay and Moruya units continue to display in their community,” said Mr Newton.

“I’m very proud of all the members of both units who, as you can see through their actions in receiving these awards have demonstrated true commitment to the NSW SES and to their local community,” Mr Newton said.

Bate mans Bay unit controller Mike Day thanked his fellow volunteers for their time and service. 

“Thank you also to the members’ families.” he said.

“It is a huge demand and you can't put a value on that donation".

Moruya unit controller Jeff McMahon said the members “well deserved the awards.”

“In particular Martin Ransom should be congratulated,” he said. 

“We all in the Moruya unit support him in receiving the award".
