The tree was partially split and in imminent danger of splitting completely when Moruya SES were called to the Yarragee Road property late on Friday afternoon.
The tree was threatening to crush a chicken shed and the SES volunteers sealed off the area, but realised the size of the task was beyond their equipment’s capabilities, so they called a registered arborist, who cut up and removed the tree.
Moruya and batemans Bay SES volunteers will join acting SES commissoner Greg Newton, Illawarra South Region cotroller Greg Murphy and Bega MP Andrew Constance at an awards ceremony at Moruya Golf CLub on Tuesday night.
Moruya member Martin Ransom will receive an award for his courage in a rescue at a flooded Donnellys Creek in 2014.
Twenty volunteers will be getting awards and there will also be unit citations.
